People usually prefer traveling India in winter. The country has got some wonderful places to chill around which stand scenic during spring and winters. However, if you wish to travel in Summer, you need to select places where you have relatively low temperatures because India has scorching summers.

Even though Flight charges are a bit high, you always have trains and bus to compensate for it. Ironically, sometimes flight prices are cheaper for both short and long-distance travel. Get along to places across cities in city buses. And move city to city in railways. Doing this way is highly economical.However, you always have a choice to decide for yourself.

  1. Get vaccinated before you start

Don’t let your concern for health stand as a barrier for your travel. Make sure that you get health advice from your doctors at least 6-8 weeks prior to your travel and take vaccinations if necessary.

Most common Vaccines include:

  1. Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
  2. Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine
  3. Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine,
  4. Polio vaccine
  5. yearly flu shot

Apart from vaccination, it is always better to prefer mineral water than tap water. Also, make sure to have to have hygienic food and stay low on spices.

Generally, mosquito bites are irresistible at transport stations, therefore carry famous ointment called as Odomos. You can also choose different brand but carry a mosquito repellent cream/lotion.

Apart from Nepal and Bhutan, people from every other place needs to have a permit to enter India. This permit takes time to get approved and so has to be applied 3-6 months prior to your travel. Do observe that your validation period starts right from the day of approval.

Applying for a Visa and getting it approved was once a time-consuming process. But now, the E-Visa service has made it much easier. This service is available for citizens from 160 countries that include USA, UK, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Australia and other countries of Europe. This Visa is valid for two months and only needs 5-6 working days for getting approved.

India has 4 major airports known as Gateway Airports at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata These are the major entry points and the others include Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi. There are many non-stop, direct and connecting choices to these cities from Europe, North America, Middle East & Australia. Even Africa is connected to Delhi and Mumbai.

The secondary points of entry to India  Gaya, Goa, Trivandrum, Trichy, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kozhikode, Ahmedabad, Patna, Lucknow, and Pune. Most of the major Middle Eastern carriers offer one stop connections to the coast from their Gulf hubs. Goa is a favorite European tourist destination and is connected by many European charter operators like Condor, Edelweiss, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines & Thomson Airways. Kolkata is currently served by Dragonair (a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific), Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.

India has homegrown international airlines like Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo etc. They have daily flights to major hubs across the world.

From the United States, United Airlines offers nonstop daily service from Newark Airport to Delhi and Mumbai; Air India offers daily non-stop service to Delhi from New York-JFK and Chicago and Mumbai from Newark. Various European airlines offer connecting service through their European hubs from most major US cities and various Asian airlines offer connecting service from West Coast cities to India through their Asian hubs. Jet Airways also flies from New York to Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai via Brussels.

Book your tickets:

After you decide upon your destination, check out websites like www.skyscanner.com, www.kayak.com and www.momondo.com to know a detailed listing of flights to your desired destination, along with the comparative fares offered by different airlines and accordingly book your tickets. Also, avoid selecting a specific date for your departure–instead select the entire month to know which is the cheapest time to fly.

Note: Airfares usually go up on a Friday and starts plummeting on a Monday or a Tuesday. Generally, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the cheapest days to book a flight ticket.

Catching up trains is the best mode of travel considering the economic factor. However, this gets tiresome as you will need to travel long distances. Flying is a better option in terms of comfort level. However, you need to spend more money for the same.

To book tickets for flights, going online is the best option. Indigo, Air Asia are mostly preferred. And to book trains, IRCTC is website one has to log into. The demand for train travel in India is so high that getting a ticket is very difficult. So, please do make sure that you book well in advance.

If you are unable to book in advance, then you can visit the station and try to get a ticket from Emergency or Tourist Quota. A bus is always an option, but the train would be the best between the two.

 

  1. Access free WI-fi at Indian Airports and Railway Stations

All you have to do is to search for Wifi connections as you reach an airport or a railway station. As you find an open connection with a name related to the respective airport or station, you can get connected. However, the usage is limited to 40 mins.

 

  1. Get a local Sim Card:

Check out nearby authorized cellular stores to get a sim card. Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel are the preferred networks.

 

Note: Do not prefer getting a sim card from third-party retailers as the sims offered might be ingenuine. They also charge triple the rate. However, being legitimate will not cause much.
