About Madurai:

The city that is an example of ancient urban city planning was planned keeping Meenakshi Amman temple in its centre. The city houses many other historical monuments and considered to have major contribution in the field of education and industry. The main crop of the region is rice. It is also famous for its Jasmine flower yields. One can relish on traditional South Indian cuisines and many other specialities. The important festival celebrated here is Pongal which is harvest festival that comes in the month of January at the time of winter solstice. The famous sport Jallikattu which has agricultural significance for the breeding of good breed of cattle was used to be celebrated here.
